    Beatrix Potter

Paperback (Leopold Classic Library, May 15, 2014)
Leopold Classic Library is delighted to publish this classic book as part of our extensive collection. As part of our on-going commitment to delivering value to the reader, we have also provided you with a link to a website, where you may download a colour PDF version of this work for free. Many of the books in our collection have been out of print for decades, and therefore have not been accessible to the general public. Whilst the books in this collection have not been hand curated, an aim of our publishing program is to facilitate rapid access to this vast reservoir of literature. As a result of this book being first published many decades ago, it may have occasional imperfections. These imperfections may include poor picture quality, blurred or missing text. While some of these imperfections may have appeared in the original work, others may have resulted from the scanning process that has been applied. However, our view is that this is a significant literary work, which deserves to be brought back into print after many decades. While some publishers have applied optical character recognition (OCR), this approach has its own drawbacks, which include formatting errors, misspelt words, or the presence of inappropriate characters. Our philosophy has been guided by a desire to provide the reader with an experience that is as close as possible to ownership of the original work. We hope that you will enjoy this wonderful classic book, and that the occasional imperfection that it might contain will not detract from the experience.

    Beatrix Potter

Paperback (Independently published, March 30, 2020)
رWhen the tailor becomes sick and cannot finish the waistcoat for the Mayor, the mice finish it for him.In the time of swords and periwigs and full-skirted coats with flowered lappets–when gentlemen wore ruffles, and gold-laced waistcoats of paduasoy and taffeta–there lived a tailor in Gloucester. He sat in the window of a little shop in Westgate Street, cross-legged on a table, from morning till dark. All day long while the light lasted he sewed and snippeted, piecing out his satin and pompadour, and lutestring; stuffs had strange names, and were very expensive in the days of the Tailor of Gloucester. But although he sewed fine silk for his neighbours, he himself was very, very poor–a little old man in spectacles, with a pinched face, old crooked fingers, and a suit of thread-bare clothes. He cut his coats without waste, according to his embroidered cloth; they were very small ends and snippets that lay about upon the table–“Too narrow breadths for nought–except waistcoats for mice,” said the tailor. One bitter cold day near Christmastime the tailor began to make a coat–a coat of cherry-coloured corded silk embroidered with pansies and roses, and a cream coloured satin waistcoat–trimmed with gauze and green worsted chenille–for the Mayor of Gloucester.

  • The Tailor of Gloucester

    Beatrix Potter

Paperback (Dodo Press, Oct. 26, 2007)
(Helen) Beatrix Potter (1866-1943) was an English author and illustrator, botanist, and conservationist, born in Kensington, London best known for her children's books, which featured animal characters such as Peter Rabbit. Educated at home by a succession of governesses, she had little opportunity to mix with other children. Potter had frogs and newts, and even a pet bat. The basis of her many projects and stories were the small animals that she smuggled into the house or observed during family holidays in Scotland and the Lake District. She was encouraged to publish her story, The Tale of Peter Rabbit (1902), but she struggled to find a publisher until it was accepted when she was 36, by Frederick Warne & Co. The small book and her following works were extremely well received and she gained an independent income from the sales. Potter eventually wrote 23 books. These were published in a small format, easy for a child to hold and read. Her writing efforts abated around 1920 due to poor eyesight.

  • The Tailor of Gloucester

    Beatrix Potter

Paperback (Independently published, July 15, 2020)
When the tailor becomes sick and cannot finish the waistcoat for the Mayor, the mice finish it for him. There were twelve pieces for the coat and four pieces for the waistcoat; and there were pocket flaps and cuffs, and buttons all in order. For the lining of the coat there was fine yellow taffeta; and for the button–holes of the waistcoat, there was cherry–coloured twist. And everything was ready to sew together in the morning, all measured and sufficient—except that there was wanting just one single skein of cherry–coloured twisted silk. The tailor came out of his shop at dark, for he did not sleep there at nights; he fastened the window and locked the door, and took away the key. No one lived there at night but little brown mice, and they runin and out without any keysFor behind the wooden wainscots of all the old houses in Gloucester, there are little mouse staircases and secret trap–doors; and the mice run from house to house through those long narrow passages; they can run all over the town without going into the streets.

  • The tailor of Gloucester

    Beatrix Potter

Paperback (Ulan Press, Aug. 31, 2012)
This book was originally published prior to 1923, and represents a reproduction of an important historical work, maintaining the same format as the original work. While some publishers have opted to apply OCR (optical character recognition) technology to the process, we believe this leads to sub-optimal results (frequent typographical errors, strange characters and confusing formatting) and does not adequately preserve the historical character of the original artifact. We believe this work is culturally important in its original archival form. While we strive to adequately clean and digitally enhance the original work, there are occasionally instances where imperfections such as blurred or missing pages, poor pictures or errant marks may have been introduced due to either the quality of the original work or the scanning process itself. Despite these occasional imperfections, we have brought it back into print as part of our ongoing global book preservation commitment, providing customers with access to the best possible historical reprints. We appreciate your understanding of these occasional imperfections, and sincerely hope you enjoy seeing the book in a format as close as possible to that intended by the original publisher.
